Peru 2001

Southern Peru
Emergency Earthquake Relief
November 2001

Southern Peru was hit by a series of Earthquakes in the Southwestern region inland, which caused a tsunami to hit the coastal region. The people had never seen or heard of such a phenomenon, so when the ocean to receded to reveal fish flopping in the sand, many went to investigate.

Many lives where lost, and an entire village was wiped out in a matter of moments. The people were attempting to rebuild the area to resume farming and reestablish homes, while still in a state of shock from their loss of homes and family. The Project Compassion team of 17 people treated over 1200 people during the clinic days, and treated many infections and injuries as a result of the ordeal they had been through.

The team was blessed to be able to touch so many in need, and rewarded after thehard clinic days with time in Cusco and a trip to Machu Pichu.
