Project Compassion 2005 Tsunami Relief in Asia
Project Compassion has a working relationship with the people in India, and
just took a team there this past July. We know the area. We know the faces.
We know the needs. Help us to touch them now in this time of need. Most were
fisherman, and the nets are lost, boats destroyed, and homes gone. They need
a loving touch from us now, and you can be a part.
Brother Joseph has a large ministry on the Eastern coast of India – both
North and South of Chennai (Madras). The area was hit hard, and he is
housing many displaced people, in addition to the hundreds he already cared
for. We are checking about the logistics of travel, hotels, good food
source, etc., and setting out a plan.
This trip is not a cheap one. The last India excursion was $2,800 per
volunteer, and we spent way more than we received. This one should cost the
same, except we need to augment certain meds for the needs. We need to do
this - I know we are supposed to do this - but it comes at a time of the
hardest financial situation Project Compassion has ever had. We were praying
for year-end giving to pay the rent. Now we are diverting what we have to an
emergency trip.
There will be no playtime – it will be kept to within a week to encourage
volunteers. Tentative layout - - - If we leave on Saturday the 22nd, we can
get to Chennai on the 24th, and then train to the sites by the 25th. We
would then just hit the clinics - three hard-long days. Start at dawn and go
into dark. Expect 12-hour clinic days. We can see 3,000+ if we get the right
team composition. On the 29th we would train back to Chennai for a night
flight home, and back in LAX on the 30th.
They need our help, and we need help to do this. We need donations to
Project Compassion. We must buy the meds, protein supplements, and give-aways.
We will probably be paying "extra" baggage charges. We need to supplement
hosts, interpreters, and missionaries in India. I know we will see needs we
will want to meet when there. Anybody that can help with any amount can be a
part of this.
We now have two complete teams
enlisted and ready to go!!!! Thanks for the response!
